Where To Party:
A red light glowing inside the Stone Street Coffee Company (and the seemingly out-of-place gaggle waiting to get in) may provide a clue that there’s more than just coffee inside this tiny storefront. Behind an innocuous door, Bathtub Gin’s name may conjure Prohibition-era moonshine, but the owners wisely decided to focus their cocktail list on recipes predating the bathtub brewing decade.. Bar food is a modern fusion affair with menu items including truffle mushroom ricotta gnocchi, tuna tartare with taro root chips and mango salsa.. Weeknights offer an opportunity to sit back in one of the speakeasy’s plush, damask banquettes over a cocktail or two while weekends are more raucous, drawing twenty and thirty something crowds away from the nearby Meat Packing district scene with D.J.s spinning dance tracks.
The Electric Room lurks deep beneath the Dream Downtown hotel, like a rock star’s forbidden bunker. The Rule-Britannia influenced lounge has a transported London vibe: wood-paneled walls, Banksy-inspired graffiti, and leather couches embossed with Old Glory and the Union Jack. The crowd is the seen-and-be-seen type, but the Electric Room’s conscious usage of rock and roll in its design and music selection—everything from ’80s synth to Radiohead to The White Stripes—bring in the hip and downtown crowd. The menu focuses on cocktail specials that feature a nice mix of booze, fresh garnishes, and fruity bits. There’s even some comfort food, including spicy meatballs, mini cheeseburgers, and a BLT. Private studio events and celebrations are scheduled during the TFF.
