For many years, we thought that micro-credit was reaching people living in the harshest forms of extreme poverty. It wasn’t until researchers looked more closely in the 1990s that they found that in fact, it had failed to reach the poorest of the poor. Enabling the poorest, most marginalized families to live better lives required not just tweaking an existing model; it needed a fundamentally different approach.
She brought us the little black dress and she is synonymous with chic fashion and classy fragrances. Indeed, it is hard to think of great fashion without thinking of Coco Chanel – even if only briefly. So you might be very familiar with her name, but there are still some things about the non-conformist fashion designer you probably don’t know yet
Speaking to Project Magnitude’s designer at the 2010 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Lukasz Opalinski noted, “it is full of innovative elements that we believe are ground breaking, such as her natural lines and the application of glass surfaces that create much lighter interiors and bigger visual spaces … a lot of the main key features include the water sports deck that opens up into a unified platform which allows you to launch jet-skis, submarines, anything, even take a morning jog.”
Italian automaker Maserati is portraying the related yet distinct aesthetics of the two trim options for its new Quattroporte through a lifestyle film. Maserati’s two-minute campaign film for the sports saloon, “Meet Your Equal,” personifies the single heart yet two unique souls that exist in two differently outfitted vehicles. Creating context for these vehicles may help potential owners pick the right option for their own personality.
It’s that time of the year, that time where everyone has to go to work, but no one wants to be there because it’s the holidays.
The holidays can be done in a couple of ways: Go away and not be bothered with anyone, stay here and deal with friends and have a great time, or go out with people for one time who you have no interest in speaking to the rest of the year. So if you are going to stick around, at least do it with some of the people and places that do it the best.
Our first stop is The Claridge’s. For some reason, the holidays seem so much nicer in London. I don’t know why, but they just seem like really nice people who want to have a nice time and it is not as commercialized as here in New York. The Claridge’s would be my top choice for afternoon tea and holiday celebration.
Now, just so we’re clear, nobody beats New York when it comes to creativity and nothing is better than seeing the windows in New York City. The windows here are the most creative and festive for the holidays. The best way to experience this is to grab a bottle of champagne (preferably Dom Perignon P2), cuddle up in the back of your car, with your driver in tow, and see the windows individually with the glass of champagne in your hand. Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s, Macy’s, and Lord & Taylor’s are must sees.
If it’s engagement time, you’ll be spending your holiday searching for the perfect blue box from Tiffany’s. If you have an extraordinary amount of money, we will handle it for you.
Cool places to go for a drink or just hanging with friends. Start your drinking at Todd English at The Plaza Hotel then make your way to the Assouline Book Store in the Plaza lobby. A very nice spot to grab a drink would be at The Ascent Lounge at the Time Warner Building, which has an amazing view of Central Park. Make sure you go when it’s snowing. Another really cool spot would be the Marc Hotel or drinks in SoHo at The Mercer while doing some holiday shopping.
Im not sure what we are planning this year since we are in the middle of fantasy holiday booking yachts for clients, the races at Formula 1, villas in the Caribbean, and meet and greets with famous soccer players. And for those of you who have unlimited credit cards, we are in the process of planning out Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions of things to do during the holidays let us know.
On another note, there is this new restaurant that’s called Beautique. I have read about it and heard some fabulous things from friends, but has anyone really gone there? And is this truly the best A-list celebrity restaurant in New York?
Stay tuned for M’s Christmas Wish list for December.
St Erik’s Brewery–one of Sweden’s finest micros–just released batches of the worlds most expensive potato chips to accompany their beers as the perfect drinking snack. At more than $11 per chip, and only sold in packs of five, these chips are unlike anything you’ve drunkenly crammed in your mouth hole before. They’re made with some of the most exclusive ingredients available in the Nordics like matsutake (one of the worlds most sought after mushroom species) and truffle seaweed (from the Faroe Islands).
The St. Regis Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is creating an elevated culinary experience on its helipad 836 feet in the air.
Held once a month, the Helipad Sunset Supper will be open to the public, allowing 20 diners to be wined and dined far above the city. This experience will enable those beyond the hotel’s guests to experience the property’s service and views.
It may appear at first glance that Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos 568 by Marc Newson provides crystal clear proof of perpetual motion, but horologic hocus-pocus is not at play, only exquisite engineering. The 183-year-old manufacture teamed with iconic industrial designer Marc Newson to create a contemporary version of its long-revered Atmos, first developed in 1928.
